A thought on becoming "popular"

Blogs are a serious business. They may not be a brick and mortar business, but they are a way to make money. Obviously a lot of people really want their blogs to become popular. Over the weekend Jesse, a tech blogger from here in Utah, mentioned how a lot of tech bloggers got left out in a specific meeting here. That's not what I want to talk about, however. What I want to talk about is how to promote your blog.

On Jesse's site I posted a comment about my trying to be a tech blogger. We carried on a short conversation about how to become credible, etc. This is one of the best ways to get your name out there. Promote it. Be actively involved in your site. Create original, unique content. Obviously this stuff has been talked about elsewhere, and I'm not trying to beat a dead cow; I did want to mention my personal experience, though. My blog hasn't taken off, but it hasn't failed either. I get an average of about 30 hits a day, some of which are mine. I haven't had a ton of comments, not one yet, actually. But by getting out and talking about my blog with friends, collueges, and even just random people, it's slowly becoming more and more popular. To put it simply, connect with people!

So, if you're reading this now and have a blog, I invite you to leave a comment! Talk about your blog and I'll check it out. If I like what I see, I'll subscribe to it and link to posts I think are good.
